The role of the companies cannot be limited to obtaining economic benefits. For the Social Doctrine of the Church, the companies have a social role in achieving a fairer society and contributing to the common good. At the labor level, this means contributing to the achievement of decent work, based on respect for the dignity of the person who performs it, which is manifested in respect for labor rights, especially the right to work, to non-discrimination, to a fair salary, carried out in safe conditions, respect for rest and attention to family, religious and cultural needs, to participation in company decisions, and to association in unions for the defense and representation of the interests of the workers, as well as, in cases where it is essential, the exercise of conflict tools such as strikes.
