About the Journal
THEME AND SCOPE
Vergentis is a scientific initiative of the International Chair Innocent III of the Catholic University of Murcia for the research in History of Law, ius commune and Canon law.
The Journal, in its six-monthly editions, comes both in paper and digital format (the digital version is freely accessible, with no restriction, in open access modality) and it collects scientific articles that are submitted to two specialists in the subject, following the process of the double-blind peer review.
It is aimed at researchers, teachers and advanced students with an interest in the field of social sciences, particularly in the area of legal, philosophical, theological and historical disciplines.
In addition to this, Vergentis is in charge of the paper and digital publication of the proceedings of the International Conference that the International Chair Innocent III holds every year in the Catholic University of Murcia, in the presence of the great personalities of the academic world; the Conference represents an opportunity to make a reflection and a debate regarding the History of Law, Canon Law and the related subjects, without forgetting the dialogue with the positive jurist’s and always considering the signs of times.
The international standing of the Journal, acknowledged as a forum of reflection, novelty and interdisciplinary university research, is regarded favourably and it is supported by more than 200 Historians of Law, Jurists and Canonists of the World, who compose the Scientific council of Referee and the Editorial Board.
Vergentis is regularly published in the catalogues of hundreds of libraries of the world and in the main databases of scientific journals such as Erih Plus - of the European Science Foundation-, DOAJ, Hein Online, WorldCat, OpenAire, Dialnet, MIAR, Scopus and many others.
PERIODICITY
Vergentis Journal is published on a semi-annual basis.
The journal publishes the articles collected in the six-month period from January to June in the month of December of the same year. The articles collected in the six-month period from July to December are published in March of the following year
OPEN ACCESS POLICY
This Journal provides immediate free access to its content under the principle of making research freely available to the public, which encourages greater global knowledge sharing.

Authors are allowed to deposit in institutional or thematic open access repositories the final version of their articles accepted for publication. Publishing rights belong to the journal and permission is required for any reproduction. The submission of an article to Vergentis implies the transfer of rights to the journal, allowing the article to be published. The journal Vergentis is registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
DIGITAL PRESERVATION POLICIES
This journal, under the supervision of the Catholic University of San Antonio of Murcia (UCAM), implements various strategies to ensure the continued accessibility of the digital objects hosted on its servers:
- Backups: Regular backups are performed to ensure the preservation of data stored on UCAM servers.
- Monitoring of the technological environment: The technological environment is constantly monitored to anticipate possible migrations of obsolete formats or software that may affect the accessibility of digital objects.
- Use of DOIs: The journal uses Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to facilitate the unique and permanent identification of its contents.
AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTIONS POLICY
In accordance with good publishing practices for the publication of scientific journals, Vergentis magazine asks authors who have not contributed equally to indicate the degree of contribution of each signing author in a section called ‘Authorship contributions’ located on the first page of the article.
In general, to be listed as an author, the following requirements must be met:
- Having participated in the conception and design, or in the acquisition of data, or in the analysis and interpretation of the data of the work that has resulted in the article in question;
- Having participated in the writing of the text and in any revisions;
- Having approved the version that is finally to be published.
The journal Vergentis declines any responsibility for possible conflicts arising from the authorship of the works it publishes, it follows the decision tree recommended by COPE in the event of a request to change the authorship of a manuscript received or an article already published (https://publicationethics.org/guidance/discussion-document/authorship).
FUNDING POLICY AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
All authors of the Vergentis journal must declare what funding they have received to carry out their research. The declaration of funding sources recognises the contributions of funders, fulfils funding requirements and promotes greater transparency in the research process.
Authors may acknowledge in a note on the first page of the article individuals whose contributions did not meet the criteria for authorship but who significantly influenced the study.
POLICIES FOR THE DISSEMINATION OF CONTENT AND BIBLIOGRAPHIES
The journal Vergentis fulfils the following requirements:
- It mentions how to reference published articles and offers different options for different standards (APA, Harvard, Vancouver and others).
- It allows the bibliography of articles to be exported to reference managers.
- It defines and disseminates the journal's conservation and/or preservation policy.
ARTICLE PROCESSING FEE
The journal Vergentis does not charge any fee for the receipt of manuscripts or the publication of articles.
