Gender-based islamophobia and access to rights: the veil as a symbolic barrier to citizenship for muslim women

This study analyses how gender-based Islamophobia affects the full exercise of citizenship by Muslim women in the Spanish context. Using an intersectional approach and a critical rights perspective, it analyses the veil as a symbolic boundary that marks otherness and exclusion, especially in areas such as employment, education and access to public services. The work combines regulatory review, discourse analysis and case studies to highlight gaps in legal protection against intersectional discrimination. It also documents the public policies implemented by these women, concluding with proposals for regulatory and institutional improvements from an intercultural and gender perspective.
