The Municipality of Viterbo, by virtue of an ancient custom, transposed into the local statutory law and confirmed with papal approval, was <em>domina juris pascendi</em> and, in this role, could demand that it be paid the tax for the exploitation of the pasture (<em>fida</em> or <em>affida</em>). This writing illustrates – also thanks to the examination of unpublished documentation – some controversies of which the Viterbo Community was the protagonist against those who questioned its dominion over some estates and against those who claimed to be exempt from the payment of the <em>fida</em>.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Keywords</strong>: Papal State; Civic Uses; <em>Jus pascendi</em>; Viterbo.</p> ER -
